IN response to a letter in the Opinion section a few weeks ago with regards to rude drivers in the morning.

They are not just in the morning it is whenever the mood takes them.

Last February, I was on my way to the doctor’s when smoke started billowing out from under my bonnet so I pulled over to the side of the road, switched everything off and got out of the car as quickly as possible in case it caught fire as I did not know what the problem was.

I was not blocking the road and I was under a lit road sign just past the Everglades in Widnes.

I called the AA who said they would be with me in approximately 30 minutes. It was a cold, wet, dark and windy evening and during the time I was stood there I was verbally and visually abuse by passing motorists, men and women.

Not one of them stopped to see if I needed help.

After about 25 minutes a 4x4 pulled up behind me and offered me help, she put on her hazard warning lights and let me sit in her car while waiting and even rang the AA to see how much longer they would be.

She was a sister who works at the new NHS building in Warrington and was on her way home when she passed me but turned back to see if there was anything she could do for me.

By this time I was quite upset by what I had experienced and wondered if I had been a man would they have done the same to them.

The AA arrived five to 10 minutes later. She didn’t give her name so I would like to sincerely thank her for the kindness she showed me that night even though my gratitude is belated.

To those who abused me, I hope you are never in that position and that you will never experience the same.
