I WAS interested to read about Barry Heap and Alex Baguely who felt lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues were being ignored by the mainstream political parties, Warrington Guardian, February 12.

In response, the Warrington Green Party would like to lay their cards on the table and declare what they can offer to the LGBT community in terms of policies which are aimed at achieving greater equality.

Equality is at the heart of all the Green Party policies at every level which includes local, national and European politics.

We agree with local residents Barry and Alex that LGBT issues have not been taken seriously enough by mainstream parties.

Warrington is not as progressive and outspoken as Liverpool or Manchester.

However the success of Warrington Pride has gone some way to raising awareness in the town and Green Party members and friends are looking forward to the first LGBT mardi gras event which will take place in the summer.

The Green Party ensures that diversity and equality are represented within all of our policies.

We stand for environmental and social justice for LGBT people and for everyone and are campaigning hard on hate crime, homophobic bullying in school and marriage equality.

We believe the equality agenda will benefit the whole of our community and hope people will use their vote to support it in the General and local elections.
