BOTH our local MP David Mowat and Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Warrington South Nick Bent have been very visible in supporting the Say No to Arpley Landfill campaign against any planning extension to its continued operation.

Both have been quick to point out their involvement in their respective electioneering propaganda, using images of local protesters in their campaigns to raise their own profiles.

But where were they on Tuesday this week at the latest Arpley planning inquiry?

The answer is simple: they were both absent and therefore did not support residents in their objections to the compromise application that will leave Warrington and Sankey Bridges residents to face a further three years of resultant misery and harm (the operators, WBC and the previous inspectors’ words not mine) should the application be approved.

Maybe we should give them credit for being politically astute enough to distance themselves from what might look like a political failure, or maybe they just lack the moral conviction to see their previous views through to a conclusion.

Thank you to both for promoting our cause, but I am afraid letting us down when it really counted will mean neither will get my and other residents’ votes in the General Election.
