THE interesting Shakespearian verse sent by Mr Kilvington seems to have been known about for some centuries, as I have come across this fragment of an old verse which appears to conclude that the lines are a forgery.
First line Pentameter Iambic be, But then confusion in the verse we see.
Possessive its no apostrophe hath Which knoweth every knave from here to Bath.
In Will’s daye Barlee Mowe was rich man’s howse Where no bard was lette to drink nor carouse.
Ye markethe daye ne’er Thursdaye hath been, Thus Werington Shakespeare ne’er hath seene.
