OUR family went along to see Snow White at the Parr Hall.

My four-year-old grandson has cerebral palsy and of course we want him to experience what any child of that age does where possible.

On booking the tickets we made them aware there would be a wheelchair user.

During the interval of the show my daughter asked to use the disability changing facilities. She was shown to a standard accessible toilet which had a toilet and baby drop down table. This is not considered adequate for the needs of all disabled people and carers.

The only option at the Parr Hall was to use the toilet floor which is dangerous, unhygienic and undignified. I don’t think any parent would find this suitable.

On later contacting the Parr Hall management with my complaint, although sympathetic, they could only suggest that next time we intended to visit we could perhaps use if available a staff room or dressing room, and they would put a table in. This is far from normalising a family outing.

It is a great pity that when a major sum was spent on refurbishing the Parr Hall consideration could not have been made for disability facilities as championed by Changing Places Consortium.

There is perhaps a lack of consultation with groups such as Warrington Disability Partnership being sought when planning for new and reconstruction of public buildings and areas under Warrington Borough Council and their third party operatives.

There are many of these developments under way and Warrington needs to take advice from people who understand disability needs. I suggest they look up changing-places.org.

People need the Changing Places toilets that would help them to enjoy the day-to-day activities many of us take for granted. Come on Warrington wake up to the needs of all.
