AN important point about the crisis at Warrington Hospital has been overlooked, namely that the Tory MP who voted for David Cameron’s disastrous NHS policies no longer lives in Warrington and does not actually use the over-stretched services in our town.

The more serious broken promises are those made by David Cameron.

He promised to protect NHS funding, but it has fallen in real terms. He promised there would be no top-down re-organisation of the NHS, but that is what he did, wasting billions of pounds on bureaucracy and lawyers.

And the massive cuts to council budgets in northern towns like Warrington has undermined care services for the frail, elderly and disabled.

We all know that long-term pressures on the NHS are growing but this crisis at A&E was avoidable if David Cameron had kept his word.

But he didn’t.

Labour’s Andy Burnham has a clear and fully costed plan to rescue the NHS, with more money coming from taxes on the tobacco companies and a Mansion Tax on homes worth over £2 million.
