IN these times where Warrington Borough Council often gets a bad press, I would like to tell you of my recent experience.

It was one that helped me, put back my faith in people. And this from what is often seen as a faceless organisation that is surrounded by red tape.

In early October through no fault of my own I found myself with nowhere to live, no job, no income and nowhere or nobody to turn to (breakdown of a relationship).

I was lucky to be able to sofa surf at various friends’ homes, in exchange for the bed I helped with household chores, one of them being the weekly visit to the launderette.

While there I saw a poster on the wall advertising a job club run by Warrington Borough Council, which promised all my immediate problems would be sorted, benefits, housing, job.

I phoned and arranged to meet a lady called Tracy. I explained I had no money for the bus to get to the venue, and she arranged to come to me at the local cafe. We had a lovely chat, she explained what she could do, how she could help me and what my entitlements were, and what other services I could access.

Fast forward two months on.

Warrington Borough Council kept its word, Tracy helped with my benefit forms, got me on some training courses, helped me with a CV, registered me with job agencies and even took me to an interview, offered me advice and coaching skills.

And best of all I have a flat which is my own home and I am so looking forward to a happy Christmas and a positive future in the new year. I am full of confidence, ready to start full time employment on January 6.

Once again thank you Warrington council for providing this service.
