HAVING tried to get a response from Apple Jacks farm in Warrington I thought I would contact the Warrington Guardian to warn other parents.

I took my daughter Summer here for the spooky day on Saturday, October 18, for her birthday.

It’s not often we go out, but I thought we would treat my daughter as it was her fifth birthday. I checked the website and it said that the spooky day would be suitable for children aged four and over.

All was going well until we went onto the haunted hay ride. This ride itself was suitable enough for young children but when the tractor stopped, we were directed the wrong way and into the slaughter house (only open at night for adults).

There were animal parts, sounds of pigs being slaughtered…the name said it all really. My daughter was very scared and actually said: “We are going to die in here”.

Once in there, we had no choice but to go through it all and get to the end. One little boy, around seven years old, burst into tears once he got out.

My daughter wasn’t crying but I could tell it had affected her. Once out I went to ask a member of staff if the slaughter house should be open in the day, she said no but she would ask her supervisor, and the supervisor confirmed that it should not be open in the day.

I then told the member of staff that children were being directed through there, but she didn’t seem to care. We left shortly after.

That night my daughter woke me up saying that she was scared, which is most unusual. I then tried to contact someone at Apple Jacks and sent an e-mail, to which I am still waiting for a response.

My daughter had a Halloween party in school yesterday, she started crying in the classroom when the children got their costumes out, saying that she was scared.

We have had a Halloween/birthday party for my daughter for the past three years and she loves all of the decorations and everything to do with Halloween but this morning when she looked at some of the decorations, she started crying again.

As a mother I am absolutely furious that this was allowed to happen and that nobody seems to care. I hope Summer gets over it in time but other parents need to be warned.
