UKIP likes to claim that most of our laws are ‘made in Brussels’.
Many of these EU laws are things that most would support: protecting workers’ rights and safety, limits on lorry drivers’ (and pilots’) hours, protecting wildlife etc.
Remarkably, the only EU directive that UKIP’s manifesto specifically says they’d get rid of is the landfill directive, which aims to reduce waste going to landfill because of its bad effects on the environment. For those of us fighting to close Arpley tip, it’s odd to find UKIP wanting more landfill and presumably happy to open more landfill sites.
