SADLY there are those among us who pick a political party and stick with it all their life.

They are tribal by nature and vote that way because ‘they always have’, giving absolutely no thought whatsoever to what, on balance, is likely to be the best way forward.

I know somebody, who, when you talk to him is the biggest right wing Tory you could ever meet, but he votes Labour, because he always has.

There are those too within these tribes who like to see their opponents fail, even if that means this country of ours suffering as a result.

They are no different from the ‘tribes’ who support their football teams, never seeing their own players commit a foul but seeing their opposing team full of nasty men who should be red carded as soon as they walk onto the pitch.

And so it is with Mr Withers. He is in absolute denial about the UK’s economic recovery. He even thinks it’s laughable.

The recovery isn’t my biased view, it is the view of the IMF who have actually upgraded the UK’s forecast for this coming year. But that’s not good enough for Mr Withers who says we failed to meet our deficit target.

He’s right though. Shareholders have in many cases been rewarded. They have to be. It’s called capitalism and without them there would be no economy at all. I just wish there were many more shareholders investing in the growth of our country. Please don’t knock them. If this sticks in your craw, I suggest you move to either Cuba or North Korea where they do it differently.

Let’s look at Mr Withers’ alternative. A government led by Red Ed Miliband. A man spoonfed on ultra left wing propaganda from an early age.

Let me refresh your memory. When Monsieur Holland was elected in France, he did what Mr Withers would want a Labour government to do. He soaked the rich and borrowed even more money off ‘the old lady next door’.

Lest you’ve forgotten, your man Miliband roundly applauded this ‘socialist’ solution to France’s economic ills.

Just look where France is now. Go on, take a close look.

Finally at the last budget the tax threshold was raised so that lower income workers would stop paying any tax at all. No doubt Mr Withers sees this as a cynical move to help all millionaires. There will be a conspiracy theory somewhere. I’m just waiting for it.
