WHAT is going on with Network Warrington? The 25 and 28 services have been halved. The 23 reduced to half hourly, and the 17 suspended at Birchwood train station. Surely I’m not the only person becoming seriously disgruntled about what is becoming a rather sporadic bus service.

I’d love to know how they work these timetables out as two buses to Birchwood, the 24 and the 25 leave the bus station within three minutes of each other, returning with four minutes in between. What is the point of this? The 24 then meets the 23 in Fearnhead at almost the same time.

Timetabled or not, I frequently find my bus chasing the tail of the 23. Surely it would make more sense to run them at more reasonable intervals? As for the 17, it seemed busiest between Birchwood Shopping Centre and Gorse Covert, so what do they do, terminate it at Birchwood Train Station. I know the Government funding runs out this year, so no doubt we will be waving goodbye to that service too.

Don’t even get me started about the bus fare increases.

I use the buses on a daily basis and I find the main topic of conversation at the bus stops is, what is rapidly becoming, our rather appalling bus service.

There are plenty of rumours going round regarding redundancies, the 9pm service termination and further re-timetabling (which is likely to mean more cuts). Personally (and plenty have agreed with me), I think the council should seriously consider bringing in another provider as it couldn’t get much worse.
