I WAS delighted to see a picture of Arley Hall in the Guardian, March 27.
I was born and raised in Grappenhall village and know that area of Cheshire well.
When we were kids we roamed all over.
I am nearly 79 now and miss the village and Warrington a lot.
There was a signpost pointing to the hall stating ‘Travellers this notice heed, onward ye may not proceed, unless to Arley Hall ye speed’.
My mother, born in 1911, remembered it being there when she was a small child. She said it had been there from the time Arley Hall was built.
Do you know if it is still there? Beautiful picture, brought back memories. Thank you!
