RFL is killing game
3:56pm Friday 13th September 2013 in Letters
AS a Wolves fan for 60 years I agree with what Mike Parsons has to say about the state of rugby league and where it is heading, Guardian, August 29.
The rugby league bosses seems to want to be like a load of lemmings leading the game over the cliff of destruction, making referees ignore the rules that they themselves set up, for the good of the game, to ‘just let the game flow’ (if I hear that expression once more by the TV sports muppets I will scream).
They have made the game boring, that is a couple of play the balls and kick down field, we are losing the backs running the effort to create the gaps.
If some of the other teams are not up to scratch, you do not bend the rules for them. It is up to the people who run these teams to get them up to scratch.
Let us look at referees’ attention to rules in the ruck and let their linesmen do the job they are paid for, or better still take pressure off our referees, as there were still some good refs being ruined by having to fall into line.
Let us get back to open rugby or your fans will be giving you your P45 by walking away from what was the greatest game ever played.
A G WILLIAMS Warrington
