Cruelty sentence is laughable

First published in Letters

WHEN the RSPCA prosecute people for cruelty, the courts should lock them up and hand out a sentence that fits the crime.

Twenty weeks for choking a poor dog to death is a disgrace.

No wonder people think judges live in cloud cuckoo land and not the real world. The Warrington man who committed this crime will only serve about six weeks. What makes it more upsetting is that he has had the audacity to appeal against the lenient sentence. I hope the appeal judge increases his sentence to two years.

That would be more fitting and it might save another poor animal from cruelty.

Intuition suggests that he was clearly demonstrating some aspect of his bespoke upbringing. Perhaps a prison sentence with some sort of anger management training or perhaps a short stay in a mental hospital where electric shock treatment is used to possible good effect.

For some strange reason the courts dont like to dish out prison sentences, I wonder if its to do with costs, If it is then nobody can expect any sort of justice, 20 weeks should have been two years and then his mother would have something to rant about, The dirty scumbag should bebanned from keeping pets.
