New parking rules impact village

I AGREE with adverse comments about parking in Stockton Heath village car park.

I timed myself going to the bank cash machine, calling at the chemist which was quiet at the time, having a coffee and a quick glance at a newspaper. I had no time to go to the Co-op and also found myself five minutes over time. I was lucky the warden was not about. I will probably forego the coffee in future.

The new parking rules will have a definite impact on the village and I expect people will shop at Morrison’s more often, not have coffee, or park on the streets.

Already people are complaining about parking in Chapel Street.

That doesn't make sense. If people park on Morrison's car park, they will shop in Morrison's.

Every survey highlights how one of the major factors in the demise of the High Street in the UK is car park charging. What the council has done now is taken the view that because it makes a deficit on car parking services, it needs to extract more money from people. This will adversely affect the shops in Stockton Heath without question.

All the council need do now is permit even later drinking on the bars in the village and the transformation of the area to yet another wilderness can begin.

Perhaps if you take a further interest in the local political arena you might be able to influence some of these wild-cat decisions, or maybe not, just a suggestion though.

The parking facilities across Warrington as a whole, is very poor. Between poorly designed multi storey car parks which dont allow high volumes of traffic to exit at pace (queue for almost an hour when busy) or the alternative, a car park on the edge of town which is so poorly kept that its either flooded or so deeply pot holed that you damage your car parking there, its a wonder that town does any trade from the motoring public.

If the situation is so annoying to you then do something about it, enter the political arena. By all means rehearse your argument here on these pages, but it is unlikely to go any further.
