I AGREE wholeheartedly with Mr Rayland’s comments in last week’s Guardian regarding the mayor’s registration plate. In fact I question the need for having a Mayoral car at all.

In these difficult times it does seem a little hypocritical for the Mayor of the local government to be riding around in such ostentatious style particularly when the same local government is making such deep cuts in public spending.

On the subject of saving public money I would also suggest selling off the Town Hall and nearby grounds.

Does the population of Warrington really benefit from supporting such a high maintenance building especially when the council owns a raft of office buildings that would be far cheaper to run and maintain?

Or is it more important to have somewhere for the local councillors to feel important?
