Surely new shop will kill existing business?

AS a Total Fitness member I was very upset as I am sure the other 6,000 members were when the gym closed. No other gym in Warrington offered the same facilities. It was very child-friendly offering safety and security. Other important features were the running track, women’s gym and kids’ area. I am now travelling to the Wigan branch of Total Fitness.

While I appreciate that it has been said that The Range will be providing 120 jobs, there were 29 jobs lost at Total Fitness.

What about the effect on the existing businesses in Warrington that sell similar products, JTF for instance, which in turn could lead to job losses.

One business could cancel out the other.

Warrington Borough Council should have stepped in to allow the gym to stay open as any facility that encourages children and older people to exercise is critical especially in this age of obesity and diabetes due to weight problems.

The last thing we need is yet another shop.

I would also like to know what is happening on Knutsford Road.

Where have all the trees gone, especially the weeping willow? Who is allowing this to happen to Warrington?

Also who in the planning department passed the building on Legh Street that is to be the new doctors’ surgery? It is one of the ugliest buildings in Warrington. Obviously not designed by Christopher Wren, who would be turning in his grave at the sight of it.

No, we don't need another 'shop', Total Fitness had declining numbers from a membership standpoint, at the end less than 700. Pure Gym opening near LA Bowl and the new centre in Orford were the final nails in the coffin. TF could no longer justify the cost due to loss in membership revenue. My last visit to TF people were allowed in the pool in inappropriate clothing (underwear) and some filthy animal had left a deposit in the hydrotherapy pool, staff weren't interest in cleaning this up when reported.

As for Knutsford Road, where have you been living? Under a rock? There have been numerous stories about the preparation for Warringtons new flood defences and the felling of trees to make way for the necessary foundations.

I would rather the council invests in existing facilities in the borough, assuming they could afford to do ).

If Ms Hayes is so concerned about local jobs perhaps she could consider using facilities a bit closer to home.

I agree with the comments made above. Ethna must have notice that there was plenty of room because there were so few members who had left in their droves. The competition highlighted by Nick will be the be all or end all the organisations that will soon be trading under the old Total Fitness roof.
Ethna must surely have noticed stories in the Warrington Guardian for more thans 2 years or even had the opportunity to attend the many meetings arranged by the Environmental Agency to discuss the £23 million scheme to protect the Warrington Flood Plain in and around Victoria Park.
And finally the design of the new NHS building - well each to their own - true Prince Charles may not be a fan but it is designed for patients and their needs not architectural awards. The building however has many modern features; in fact it even learns about its own environment and makes adjustments accordingly in response the weather changes to change the climate inside the building. The dentists have already moved in and having had a root extracted recently at Gavin the move to the new building bears no comparison. I was fortunately to get a tour last week and I was very impressed with the building, the facilities and proximity to the bus station.
