I have read with interest your comments regarding operation Check Point, which took place in the town centre in August and would like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

We have taken away some valuable information and intelligence from the operation and this will help us to plan future operations in the town centre.

I am now seeking feedback regarding the special drugs operation, which recently took place in the town centre.

Members of the Special Constabulary – working alongside colleagues from the Warrington Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Unit – arrested a number of people for drugs offences in Warrington town centre during the night of the operation.

The operation was a great success and we hope that it sends out a strong message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and that anyone found to be using or supplying drugs in Warrington town centre will be dealt with.

In addition to the operation a further 23 people were arrested over the course of the weekend. They were for a variety of offences including drugs offences, public order, affray and assault. These arrests were made by officers from the Warrington Town Centre NPU.

Our proactive approach to dealing with drug use in the town centre means that we are arresting more people for this type of crime. There is no evidence to suggest that offences involving drugs are increasing – the figures reflect our proactive approach and the fact that we are identifying and arresting more offenders.

We want to reassure the public that we will continue to proactively target those involved in drug use and supply and will take positive action where necessary.

People should be aware that our patrols of the town centre - in uniform and in plain clothes - will continue and anyone found to be in possession of drugs will be dealt with.

We are interested in your comments regarding the operation.

Do you come into Warrington town centre on a regular basis for a night out?

What did you think of the special operation that recently took place in Warrington town centre?

Do you feel safer knowing that officers from the town centre NPU are proactively targeting the issue of drug use and supply?

Do you think specific operations like this one should be repeated in the town centre?

i go warrington for a night out at least once a week and work in a few of warrington bars at least twice a week aswell, the checkpoint system did nothing more than cause people to que even more on there night out, as we said last time, it just gave the people who were carrying drugs time to hide it before they got checked, i am definatly in favour of plane clothed police officers patroling the bars & premises then calling marked police officers to arrest when the occupants have left the premises, i think it is unfair on the bars themselves being put in the spotlight by marked police arresting people for using drugs in venues, it brings lots of unwanted attention to the bar itself. i also think plane clothed police should be in the venues all night looking for potential trouble, sitting outside or patrolling the pavements is not catching drugies and solving fighting issues

How about tackling the source of junkies income. The latest scam is selling bootleg booze and fags to underage kids. There are at least 6 people where I live who are selling these (Not just to Kids, and not all junkies)
