Day 3 - now it starts to get tough!

Day 3 - now it starts to get tough! Day 3 - now it starts to get tough!

Today we were awoken at 6am for a 7am start and walked 12km (which took about 7 hours) across volcanic rock and desert like landscape.

Altitude sickness has well and truly set in with headaches and a general "early flu like" feeling as we approached 4630 metres - Not good!

There is also a definite lack of oxygen in the air as we're all getting out of breath doing the simplest of tasks, such as putting our sleeping bags away!

Walking to the camp was spectacular though, with strange looking trees and volcanic rocks galore, looking like a scene from Jurassic park.

We also saw a tower made from cooled lava which was also quite impressive (see attached photo).

Tonight we're staying at Barranco Camp (3950m above sea level)
