Day 2 - The Moorlands
8:52am Thursday 9th February 2012 in Your Say
Today we went above the jungle and into the moorlands to find a completely different landscape, which was incredibly scenic however had plenty of opportunity for a tan / sunburn as it's much less covered, therefore sun hats were essential.
Yesterday was mainly walking across a well trodden path, however today involved a lot more scrambling over rocks, some with massive drops if you slipped (which would really ruin your week!) Around lunchtime as we approached nearly 4000 metres, mild altitude sickness began in the form of a headache, nothing too severe but altitude sickness tablets have been needed for the first time - They haven't done too much good but the headaches go away as soon as I don't move at least!
The shirpas make the camps a lot more bearable than they could be, putting on good food for us at lunch and tea time, mainly consisting of high carb foods such as pastas and rice.
After breakfast they pack everything up, run ahead of us and make lunch (which is a minor miracle in itself), then repeat again for tea!
Tonight we're staying at Shira Camp, which is at 3800m above sea level.
