WARRINGTON’S 1986 Premiership winning hooker Kevin Tamati made just one World Cup appearance while on the books at Wilderspool.

Tamati was at prop as New Zealand drew 6-6 with Great Britain at Elland Road in Leeds in the second game of the 1985 to 1988 tournament eventually won by Australia.

It was his 22nd and final Test match for New Zealand.

Tamati’s finest hour in primrose and blue also came at Elland Road as Warrington hammered champions Halifax 38-10 to lift the Premiership Trophy in 1986.

He joined the club as a 32-year-old from Widnes, with whom he was a Challenge Cup Final winner in 1984, in time for the start of the 1985/86 campaign.

He crossed the try line six times in 105 appearances over four seasons before hanging up his boots and moving into development work and coaching.
