ALTHOUGH he gained 26 Great Britain caps, Andy Gregory achieved just one World Cup appearance in his 60-match spell with Warrington.

Pocket battleship Gregory stepped up to face Australia at his home town Wigan ground on November 22, 1986 - exactly 22 years prior to this year’s World Cup Final.

He only played two more games for Warrington after that, before joining Wigan and reaching greater heights.

No doubt about the highlight of his three seasons with Warrington - the Premiership Trophy Final hammering of champions Halifax in 1986.

Gregory joined Warrington from Widnes in a £75,000 deal that took John Fieldhouse the other way.

He left Warrington for a then world record fee of £130,000.

What a great player Greg was, a pity he didn't have longer with us. Will never forget his display at Elland road in that 1986 Premiership final. Also remember having a laugh the day he walked out of the tunnel at Wilderspool for a match having overdone it on the sunbed - he was like a lobster.
