A MAN who allegedly grew 1,126 cannabis plants in a restaurant on Bridge Street appeared in court yesterday charged with cultivating the plants between February 24 and March 4.

Lin Ying, a Chinese national, made no bail application and was remanded on custody until March 13 when he will appear at Runcorn Magistrates' Court for production.

His case will be committed to the Crown Court on April 17.

Magistates heard that the cannabis plantation was worth £338,000, and decided that their sentencing powers were not great enough.

Speaking through a translator, Mr Ying entered no plea.

Police raided the address, the Happy Wok restaurant on Bridge Street, on Tuesday afternoon where they found the plants.

The plants were removed on Wednesday.
