Bradford's Mick Potter voted coach of the year

BRADFORD Bulls coach Mick Potter has been named coach of the year.

The former Catalan and Saints boss helped guide crisis club Bulls to some notable successes despite their off-the-field financial troubles.

Only the points deducted for entering administration prevented the Bulls from qualifying for the play-offs.

He was given the nod ahead of double-seeking Wolves coach Tony Smith and Leeds' double finalist Brian McDermott.

I somehow feel this is a sympathy vote for Mick Potter. Even without the points deduction the Bulls would not have made the top 4 and they were nowhere to be seen in the Challenge Cup. OK, I admit he stuck with the Bulls without pay but surely this accolade must go to the coach who has made the greatest contribution on the field and to a lesser degree his contribution off the field. Following this logic, the achievements of Tony Smith, Shaun Wayne and Brian McDermott who between them have cleaned up every trophy available makes this, in my eyes, a very strange decision..

tony smith should have got coach of the year...Look what he's achieved. Winning the challenge cup, and getting to the super league final......Maybe next time...

I have just read with utter disbelief the results of the player of the year and the team of the year awards allegedly voted for by all other teams and players in super league.
I cannot argue about the choice of Sam Tomkins who is a unique talent and is fully deserving of the accolade but Wigan as team of the year? Not in a million years. Let the raw undiluted, unadulterated and indisputable facts speak for themselves.
Team of the year has to be based on what that team has achieved over the whole season of intense rugby league in both league results and cup competitions.
Wigan won the league leaders shield by a solitary point over the season. Remember when the Wolves won it last year and all the jokes from Wiganers about the hub cap having to be retrieved from the chairman's wife's mini when she got back from Tescos - well she can put it back on now and have a complete car again because that's all they will win this year. Envious, downright derision has now miraculously turned into an all singing, all dancing, flag waving achievement in the short space of 12 short months. Such short memories our dear neighbours in pie town have.
Wolves finished one point behind Wigan but notably completed the double against them, Wolves won the Challenge Cup, Wigan didn't, Wolves are in the Grand Final, Wigan are not, Wolves are favourites to complete the double, Wigan's season is over. At least Leeds made two important finals so how in heavens name can Wigan be adjudged team of the season with only a hub cap, pie supporters choice of words not mine, to show for it?.
Based on achievement alone Wolves have to be at number one, Leeds, based on achieving two major finals, logically have to be at number 2, even if they win the grand final, and Wigan a distant third. If Warrington win the Grand Final how on God's earth can a team who has won the most difficult double imaginable in whatever sport you wish to support not be adjudged "Team of the Year". Unbelievable.
Your honour - I rest my case.

Still feel that the reason Wolves
are were they are is purely &
simply because they have a rich
benefactor ( sugar daddy) .
If they had to rely on what they
take through the turnstiles they
would struggle .

Wigan don't have cash coming in through benefactors?, Leeds don't? Stains don't? McManus has bankrolled Saints for many years. Lenaghan at Wigan now?
Many teams have had "benefactors" but have not built a dynasty as we are building at Warrington with the simple phylosophy of building strong foundations before completing the last stone on the pyramid.
