WARRINGTON Wolves’ under 20s produced yet another excellent performance to defeat St Helens in the Valvoline Cup play off and move into the qualifying semi-final of the competition.

Tries from James Laithwaite, two, Ben Currie, Gene Ormsby, James Mendeika, Gavin Bennion and Jordan Burke, along with seven goals for Ryan Shaw, saw Wolves sail past a St Helens side that had no answer to the host's clinical finishing.

Under 20s head coach Richard Marshall said: “We were a little ill-disciplined in the first half but we addressed that at half time and we were much better in the second half.

“To limit a good attacking team like St Helens to just one try was a good marker for us on how well we defended as a team.

“We had a strong side out and individually we were excellent as well as collectively.

“The whole pack were in great form especially the back three of James Laithwaite, Ben Currie and Ben Evans who got through a huge amount of work; wingers James Saltonstall and Gene Ormsby also produced excellent displays.

“We have now earned ourselves a week off and that will enable us to freshen up and get ready for our next challenge in a fortnight which will be the qualification semi final.”

Wolves: Ben Hellewell, James Saltonstall, Rhys Evans, Ryan Shaw, Gene Ormsby, James Mendeika, Bobbie Goulding, Glenn Riley, Brad Dwyer, Jack Morrison, James Laithwaite, Ben Currie, Ben Evans. Subs: Brooke Broughton, Liam Hulme, Jordan Burke, Gavin Bennion.
