TYRONE McCarthy laid the credit for his Wembley try firmly in the hands of super Bennie Westwood.

The 24-year-old back rower’s first try for three years in the 64th minute of Saturday’s final put Warrington Wolves out of Leeds Rhinos’ reach at 28-10.

“I owe everything to Bennie for that try,” said the ex-Woolston Rovers amateur.

“I could see him trying to force the ball out and just when I thought it was too late and just before he hit the floor he managed to get the ball out.

“All I had to do was pick it up and score.”

Tyrone’s beard has been a popular topic of conversation this year but the section dyed green in the name of charity was gone for the cup final.

“I was getting too many funny looks,” he said.

“I did say I would play one game with it but then I thought I couldn’t trim all the beard off because it’s given me a bit of luck this year.”
