Richie Myler speaks after 2012 Challenge Cup Final between Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos
1:24pm Tuesday 28th August 2012 in Wolves news
RICHIE Myler’s face bore the smile of a Cheshire cat as he left the Wembley dressing rooms.
He overcame the setback of missing out on the 2010 cup final with arguably his best performance in a Warrington shirt - not that he could remember much of it!
Myler, overwhelmed with emotion, said: “It’s not fully sunk in yet and I can’t even remember the game.
“It’s all just a blur and at the end we got to lift the cup. Our boys were tremendous and you have to take your hat off to them.”
The England international’s highlights included a magical kick to create the opening try for Joel Monaghan, a thumping tackle on full back Zak Hardaker that cranked up the pressure on Leeds Rhinos at a critical stage and a part in the Ryan Atkins try that put Warrington 22-10 ahead.
He finished second in the media vote for man of the match but was able to recall the part Brett Hodgson played en route to topping the poll.
“Brett got knocked out, got back up and got on with it to win the Lance Todd Trophy. You don’t get much better than that. He played outstanding throughout the game.”
Myler’s fiancée, Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton, was in the stadium to share his glorious day, along with his family including stepfather and past player Rob Myler.
“Helen’s becoming a big rugby fan now,” said Myler, who joined Wolves from Salford at the end of the 2009 campaign.
“My whole family was there to enjoy it which was great and hopefully with our great squad we can kick on now with the play-offs and Grand Final.”
And during Sunday's homecoming parade, he showed off some TV skills of his own by taking control of our video during the event.
