Leeds Rhinos stand off Danny McGuire to miss Challenge Cup Final against Warrington Wolves

WARRINGTON Wolves will face a Leeds Rhinos side missing star stand off Danny McGuire when they clash in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley on August 25.

The England international has been ruled out for six to eight weeks after sustaining a knee injury in Friday's defeat of Widnes Vikings.

The 29-year-old is the joint leading try scorer of all time in Super League and a danger to any defence.

Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott said: “We are absolutely devastated for Danny that he will miss out on Wembley.

"This is the worst possible news that we could have received less than a fortnight before the final and clearly we will have to have a major rethink about our tactics going into the game.

"I have spoken recently about Danny and the outstanding season he has had for us this year and he will be a big loss for the final.

"The injury is not related to his previous reconstruction and it was an innocuous clash. However, the scans have revealed the extent and it will need up to eight weeks recovery time.”
