Warrington Wolves pack stars are praised
10:00am Tuesday 10th July 2012 in Wolves news By Mike Parsons
TWO packmen were picked out by Tony Smith for their performances in the 15-6 defeat of play-offs rivals Catalan Dragons at The Halliwell Jones Stadium last night.
He described man-of-the-match Ben Westwood’s display in one word – ‘Wow!’ Smith went a little further in his comments on Chris Hill, a prop forward in his first season of Super League action after signing from Championship club Leigh Centurions last summer.
“I thought he was way up there in terms of standards,” said the head of coaching and rugby.
“He’s a terrific player and he’s got a big future.
“He’s not far off the first prop selected most weeks and is really blossoming into a very good Super League player.”
Smith admitted that Hill has done even better than expected in his short time with the club.
“I think we’ve got a much better player than what we presumed we were getting,” he said.
“We knew he was talented but his quality is right up there.
“And he’s slotted in exceptionally well into our club. It’s like he’s been here for years and years.”
One of the qualities Hill is bringing to the team is his staying power, especially for a prop forward who more often than not called upon for 20-minute spells in the modern game.
“He’s got a great engine and he’s got great quality in the minutes he’s on the field,” said Smith.
“The only way you play minutes at prop in my team is by producing good performance.
“And while you’re performing well you stay on the field.
“I don’t go by the clock. I don’t go in for needing to take the props off after 20 minutes. If you’re doing a good job you stay on the field.
“And that’s why he does big minutes. He’s doing a great job.”

Hill was consistent throughout his spells on the pitch my man of the match, at last a game with some intensity.

It was areal dog fight. A war of attrition between two very good sides.Old type rugby. Really enjoyed it Well done both sides. My only real concern is Chris Bridge. Hes been off the pace for some time now. Is he carrying an injury ?
