Catalans Dragons u19 10 Warrington Wolves u19 16

DESPITE spending a period of the game with just 11 men, The Wire’s under 19s held on for a gutsy win over their Catalans counterparts in Perpignan.

In a curtain-raiser to the main Super League game, Ellis Robson’s double and a further effort from Cole Oakley led Stuart Barrow’s side to victory.

The two points came back to England with Warrington despite Eribe Doro being sent off for fighting and a yellow card for Liam Brinskman.

“I am absolutely delighted for all the boys; they really did dig deep in difficult conditions to gain a really impressive win,” Barrow said.

“It may not have been the prettiest of victories but for sheer effort and togetherness it was a superb result.

“Hopefully this experience, travelling to another country in one day, and getting a win like that should give their confidence an enormous boost.”

It took the visitors just 13 minutes to open the scoring as Robson finished off Ritchie Westwood’s break, with Joe Edge adding the extras.

However, Catalans were level at the break as Louis Carre forced his way over for the first of his two tries.

Barrow’s side got the second half off to the perfect start when Brad Pinder put Robson over from close range after Jack Wilson had been held just short.

Edge then linked into the line from a scrum to send Oakley through on the left to give Wolves a measure of control.

Just after the hour, however, Doro and Dragons prop Barthelemy Rouge were both dismissed for fighting and Brinskman followed close by after being sin-binned for a high tackle.

That left Wolves with just 11 men and the hosts took advantage when Guillaume Gorka broke down the wing and found Carre on his inside to narrow the gap to just six points.

The Wire were subjected to a late onslaught but stood firm to pick up their second straight victory.

They travel to Castleford Tigers on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
