SITA Akauola is set to miss the start of the Super League season, but Tyrone Roberts is expected to be in contention for the opening game against Leeds Rhinos.

Both are new faces at The Wire, but neither have taken part in any of the club's three pre-season friendlies.

Wolves head coach Steve Price said that prop Akauola was "very close" to a return, but said the Leeds game on February 1 looks likely to be too soon for him.

"It’s more than likely Sita won’t be ready for the first game, but he’s getting very close," he said after the pre-season friendly win over Salford Red Devils.

"Tyrone will come into contention. He did some training before the game so we’ll see how he goes in the next 10 days or so."

Another new signing, Bryson Goodwin, and winger Tom Lineham sat out the 18-6 win at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, while centre Ryan Atkins was withdrawn before the end.

However, Price says all three should make the opening game.

"It is important we have our best players available for round one," he said.

"It was more about being on the safe side. If it was a competitive game, Bryson and Tom would have played.

"We wanted to be on the safe side with Ryan Atkins, but there’s nothing too serious.

"There’s a few niggles but nothing to worry about."
