MITCH Brown is adamant Wolves fans will see the best of him in 2018 – if he is played in one position.

The 30-year-old is The Wire’s latest signing after he penned a one-year deal to join the club from Leigh Centurions.

Head coach Steve Price had previously made clear his desire to sign an outside back and Brown, who worked with Price at Cronulla Sharks, is comfortable at wing, full-back and centre.

However, Brown is keen to nail down a spot on the wing at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and says an extended run out wide will help him show his best form.

“I’ll play where I’m needed, but I think Pricey has brought me here to play on the wing,” he said.

“Hopefully, I’ll be playing more in one position this year. I was moved around a fair bit at Leigh.

“We didn’t have the biggest squad and had a few injuries, so I’d be playing in one position for three weeks at a time and then change.

“If I can build some combinations, get some good game time and play week in, week out footy in one position, Warrington will see the best of me.”

Tom Lineham, Wolves’ 21-try top scorer in 2017, and Scotland international Matty Russell will provide stiff competition for places in the wide positions.

However, Brown believes the desire to earn a shirt can only be good for the collective unit.

“I’ll be trying my best to get a spot on the wing, but we have two good wingers here already,” he said.

“There’s a fair bit of competition, which is good and it gets people playing their best football.

“You don’t get complacent, I know if I have a couple of average games that someone else will be knocking on my door for my spot.

“It’s good for the team to have everyone on their toes, playing good football and doing the right things off the field.”

Having scored eight tries in 26 appearances for the Centurions last season, Brown was made a free agent following the club’s relegation from Super League via the Million Pound Game.

Despite offers elsewhere, the former Cronulla, Wests Tigers and Canterbury man says the draw of working with Price again was a big factor in his decision to join The Wire.

“I spoke to Pricey a couple of weeks ago and he showed interest in bringing me here,” he said.

“With Leigh being relegated, I was a free agent. I had chats with other clubs, but I wanted to play in Super League.

“I was with Pricey at Cronulla, I know his structures and what he’s like as a person as well as a coach. It’s a good fit for me.”

“It’s a power club, one of the biggest clubs over here.

“The facilities and staff we have here is just first class, so I’m really looking forward to this year.”
