NOBODY could blame Halifax for throwing caution to the wind in their Middle 8s campaign. After all, why wouldn’t they?

Having snuck into the Championship’s top four in the final round of games, Richard Marshall’s men were never expected to pull up any trees.

However, they may already be in favour with fans of other Middle 8s clubs for sparing them a potential second trip to France by pipping Toulouse to the final spot in the next phase.

On what will be their first ever league trip to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in front of the TV cameras, the ’Fax squad need no further motivation to impress.

They ran Hull Kingston Rovers extremely close in the first round of fixtures, eventually succumbing 26-22 having led for much of the game, before a 36-12 loss to Widnes on Sunday.

With a home game against Catalans to come straight after their trip to The Wire, they will have faced three Super League sides in their first four Middle 8s games.

Despite their underdog status, there are a few players Wolves should be wary of, including the Qualifiers’ current top try-scorer.

Winger Ben Heaton is in superb form and will be keen to add to his tally of four tries in two games on Saturday.

Steve Tyrer is a reliable try-scorer and goal-kicker, while Wire fans will know exactly what to expect from utility Simon Grix after his 10-year, 179-game spell with the club.
