BEN Currie is “coming along good” in his recovery from a serious knee injury, Wolves boss Tony Smith said.

The 21-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the act of scoring his 21st try of 2016 during the 35-28 loss to Wigan on September 16.

Currie was earmarked to return to first-team action in June or July and Smith says he is still on course for that target.

The Wire boss also confirmed winger Kevin Penny and half-back Morgan Smith are also close to being available again.

“Ben Currie’s still looking at June or July but he’s coming along good,” he said.

“Kev Penny is not far off. He will be back in training in the next couple of weeks.

“Morgan will play reserve grade on Friday, which is a real positive for us. He’ll be better for having 20-30 minutes of reserve grade under his belt.”

Meanwhile, Smith says he feels for centre Toby King after he suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old, who scored what turned out to be the winning try in Monday’s 26-24 victory over Huddersfield, suffered the setback in training on Wednesday and will miss Saturday’s game against Wakefield.

King had only played four games since returning from another hamstring strain he picked up on the season’s opening day at Catalans and Smith says the youngster’s latest setback is a big blow.

“It’s a shame for Toby, he hasn’t had a lot of continuity,” he said.

“He’s just returning from a lengthy lay-off and was coming into some form.

“I don’t think he had his strongest of games against Huddersfield but he came up with some big plays.

“For him to have a blow like this so soon after coming back, I feel for the young man.

“It’s a fatigue injury, re-injuring a hamstring isn’t really a surprise when you play two games over a short period of time.”
