Wakefield Trinity u19 28 Warrington Wolves u19 32.

LIAM Jones’ last-minute try earned Wolves’ under 19s victory in a thrilling contest at Wakefield to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

After a superb display in the first half, Stuart Barrow’s men saw their healthy lead eroded as the hosts used the considerable slope to their advantage before Jones’ intervention.

“I am absolutely delighted with the character that the boys showed in the last twenty minutes to turn things around and get the win,” head coach Barrow said.

“It would have been easy for our lads to let their heads drop when they went behind but they never did and for the last quarter of the game they were outstanding.

“The go forward from our pack, especially Alex Tankard, was really impressive and that enabled us to build pressure and eventually capitalise on it to get a fantastic win.

“The spirit in the camp speaks volumes; the members of the squad who were not selected were all there supporting their fellow teammates and it was very fitting that we got the hard fought victory at the end.”

Wolves took an early lead when Sam Storey broke up the field from a handling error and, two tackles later, Harry Reardon and Will Dagger combined to put Jones over.

Nathan Ainsworth burrowed over from dummy-half to extend the lead before quick hands saw Conor Taylor cross beside the posts.

Lee Kershaw got Trinity on the board, but Reardon put Pat Moran over two minutes later to keep Wolves in command at the break.

Elliot Caine and Chris Brown crossed for Wakefield to narrow the gap just after the interval, but Storey squeezed over in the corner to steady the ship for Wolves.

However, two tries in three minutes from Brown saw the hosts hit the front for the first time on the hour mark.

Dagger’s break found Taylor to level the scores and, after Reardon’s attempted drop goal was charged down, Wolves regained possession and Dagger’s long ball allowed Jones to score in the corner.
