MIKE Cooper believes Wolves are playing not just for themselves but for Super League as a whole when they face Brisbane Broncos on Saturday.

Super League sides have yet to win a game against their Australian counterparts since the World Club Challenge was expanded in 2015 and Cooper believes there is a “lack of respect” for the competition Down Under.

“We want to win for Super League as well as ourselves,” he said.

“There’s a lack of respect for our competition in Australia, people don’t feel it is as strong.

“A win might make people sit up and take notice so that’s what we’re aiming to do for sure.”

Cooper’s side go into the game having lost their opening Super League fixture against Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

The England prop started the match in Perpignan and says Wolves have “a few things to put right” against the Broncos.

Cooper, who spent three years in the NRL with St George Illawarra, has also spoken about the Broncos’ preference to fly out of the blocks at the start of games but is confident his side will be ready for it.

“That’s what happens in these one-off games, you have to be on it from the first whistle,” he said.

“There’s a few things we need to sort out from Saturday but everyone is feeling a bit fresher for having a few games under their belt.”

BOTH Wolves and Brisbane will hold open training sessions tomorrow, Friday, at Victoria Park ahead of Saturday’s game.

The Wire will be first at 9.30am, followed by Brisbane at around 10.45am, and the event is open to full season members and those who present their ticket for Saturday’s game.

Match tickets can also be bought at the event.
