THE speed at which Kevin Brown has settled into life at Wolves makes it seem as if he has been around “for months”, head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith says.

The England international only completed his transfer from Widnes on Friday upon returning from holiday in Mexico but reported for training at the club’s Padgate base on Monday.

Smith says this is a demonstration of Brown’s attitude and that his influence is already rubbing off on some of the club’s younger players.

“Kevin’s fitted in superbly well, he’s had a couple of training sessions with us but it feels like he’s been here for months,” he said.

“He’s a pleasure to work with, for him to show an interest in playing for us speaks volumes and we’re delighted with the outcome.

“There’s a core group of players in there now that know how to keep a group together when things aren’t going so well and Kev just adds to that.

“The likes of Dec Patton and Morgan Smith are learning already just by rubbing shoulders with him on the training pitch.

“Kev’s a really good communicator and a great person as well so he’ll help to develop our young half-backs as well as other players.”

Brown’s arrival at The Halliwell Jones Stadium was preceded by the sensational departure of Chris Sandow, who walked out on his Wolves contract last month.

However, Smith says the club never panicked about finding a replacement and praised the contributions of owner Simon Moran and director Stuart Middleton for making the transfer happen.

“While alarm bells rang outside the camp we were confident it wasn’t too late to get someone of the right quality in and so it’s proved,” he said.

“We were quite calm about the prospects of filling the position and filling it in the right way. That’s down to some great support from the likes of Simon Moran and Stuart Middleton.

“We did pay a fee for Kevin and without their contributions we wouldn’t have ended up with such a high calibre of player.

“There was a lot of interest all over the world, we go through processes in our recruitment and we had a lot of options.

“Kev met all our needs and requirements but also has the reputation and respect within our group as well so it was an easy choice.”
