AS Ben Harrison reflects fondly on a career packed with highlights, his smile grows wider as he recollects his most special times with Warrington Wolves.

They include his early days at the club, after moving away from home at the age of 16.

“It’s been an amazing time and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said of a career that reaches 13 years in February.

“I’ve loved being at a club that has developed and progressed, being a part of something that I’ve seen change so much and been a part of that change – and it’s still changing too which is good.

“There’s been a lot more off-the-field activity this year to try and take the club to the next level and I think it has paid dividend.”

Many of his impressionable teenage years featured a primrose and blue flavour.

“I was in the scholarship for a few years but when I was 16 I signed my official first-team contract,” he said.

“I moved to Warrington after my exams that year. I was full-time from then and haven’t looked back.

“Those early days I remember like they were yesterday.

“It was intense, fresh and new. I was full of beans, playing with stars like Nathan Wood, Ben Westwood and Lee Briers.

“And then the likes of Martin Gleeson and Adrian Morley came in – people I’d idolised when watching them play Four Nations for Great Britain.

“When I came into the first-team set-up with the likes of Clarkey (Jon Clarke, now Wolves’ head of strength and conditioning), it was special for me.

“The likes of him and Briersy were strict with me. They would give me a bit of a hard time as a youngster but it really toughened me up.

“And then when I did break in, the way they all looked after me made it easier for me to play my game and do what I did well.

“That time was a massive highlight for me, experiencing the environment and the welcome I received, and the family thing I got from it helped me steadily progress.

“And the other highlights are the winning of cups, playing in Grand Finals, even Magic Weekends.

“I’ve played at Murrayfield, Cardiff and Etihad, managed to go to Australia, travel the world, South Africa for a pre-season training camp with England, enjoyed different experiences, met friends and people that I might not have had chance to.

“It’s been littered with highlights, but the trophies around 2009 and 2010 with the group we had with the likes of Kingy (Matt King), Hicksy (Chris Hicks) – the characters that were embedded in the team was unbelievable. They’d be my two years I think.”
