BEN Harrison will go into pre-season training with Warrington Wolves for the 13th time hoping his Testimonial year will include injury nightmares being behind him.

The England international, who looks back fondly on an entire professional career with The Wire, missed Warrington’s 2016 campaign as he set about getting his body back in order following reconstructions to his left knee, both shoulders as well as undergoing wrist surgery.

That meant he missed out on Wolves’ silverware assault in all three competitions, having previously been an important member of the squad that won three Challenge Cup Finals, the 2011 League Leaders’ Shield and reached two Grand Final appearances under Tony Smith between 2009 and 2013.

But having ended the last campaign with three successful comeback games on loan at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, the 28-year-old Cumbrian forward is hungry to make a key contribution to Smith’s 2017 breed of Wolves.

“Fingers crossed, with all the operations I’ve had hopefully the injuries are a little bit behind me,” said Harrison, who last appeared in primrose and blue against St Helens at Langtree Park in September, 2015.

“It has been an issue with my knee but I’ve tried to salvage it and I’ll just see where it pans out from here.

“The intention is to keep playing and achieving and to get in more finals and more of them experiences.”

His benefit year, recognition of his 10 years loyal service to one club but delayed due to Chris Bridge and Simon Grix also having celebrated the significant achievement in recent seasons, launches in Warrington Guardian today and his first event will be a dinner at the Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall on Saturday, November 19.

“Other things are coming together, like the calendar shoot and the Testimonial kit, as well as formulating a plan for events throughout the year,” he said.

“It is fundraising, but it’s linked in with a couple of great local charities – the Warrington Wolves Foundation with the work they do in the community, and St Rocco’s Hospice, which is invaluable and is testament to the town itself.

“There’ll be all sorts going on, including family days, and it’s exciting for me to celebrate and to give something back after what I’ve taken from the town and the people, and to thank everyone for their support over the years.”
