HOOKER Daryl Clark has credited the entire Wolves squad for getting him back to his best form.

After a stellar year at Castleford saw him pick up 2014’s Man of Steel prize, Clark’s first year at Warrington failed to live up to expectations.

However, the 23-year-old has shone in a Wolves side that has competed for silverware on all three fronts this year, picking up the Player’s Player of the Year award at the club’s awards night.

“All credit to the full team really and the way we’ve turned around our form from last year, it’s helped me along,” he said.

“The team struggled last year as a whole, so I think playing in a team that’s doing well has helped me get back to some good form.

“It’s hard to beat my form in 2014 but I think I’m somewhere near that.

“Some things didn’t go for us last year but the signings we’ve brought in this year have been massive.

“With making both major finals and winning the League Leaders’ Shield, you can see the difference it’s made.”

Along with skipper Chris Hill and Fiji international Ashton Sims, Clark has been part of a front row that has stayed unchanged for most of the last two seasons.

He says that too has helped his form and in turn helped the team to a third Grand Final in five years, something Clark says he has dreamt of since first picking up a rugby ball.

“It helps playing with the same people week in week out, you pick up the things they do and what they favour,” he said.

“To have the same front row is a massive help and it will be on Saturday as well.“If you ask any player, playing in these sorts of games is what you dream of.

“I was really happy to pick up my first trophy with the League Leaders’ Shield a few weeks back, I’m really keen for another now.

“It would be a massive relief, it’s the biggest prize in rugby. A lot of people go through their career having not played in a Grand Final, never mind won one.”

“To do that at 23 and achieve a dream would be pretty special.”

Directly across the field from Clark will be opposite number Sam Powell, who Clark says has been up there among the best hookers in Super League this season after stepping in for the injured Michael McIlorum.

“Wigan have a great front row and they have a great pack altogether, they’re extremely dangerous up front,” he said.

“Sam’s been one of the standout nines this year with the way he’s filled in and played big minutes.”

“He probably wouldn’t have had to do that if Micky was fit but he’s been important for them and key throughout the year.”
