WOLVES boss Tony Smith says his injured players will get a chance to prove their fitness ahead of Thursday’s Super League semi-final against St Helens.

Half-backs Kurt Gidley (hamstring) and Chris Sandow (knee) both missed Friday’s 23-6 win over Hull FC along with prop Ryan Bailey (calf).

Smith says all three will be assessed ahead of the clash with Saints, but says the game may come too soon for Sandow.

“We’ll run our eye over two or three, Kurt Gidley will get a chance to put his hand up and we’ll see how he fares,” he said.

“Ryan Bailey is the same and possibly Chrissy Sandow. It might be a little bit soon for Chris but he’s coming along.

“We’ll have a look at them, it’s only early in the week. We’re carrying a few knocks and bumps from Friday’s game that we’ll assess with a view to putting out the best team available on Thursday.”

Smith also confirmed there were no “alarming” injuries suffered during the win on Humberside that clinched the League Leaders’ Shield.

“It was a tough match and we did pick up a few knocks,” he said.

“There’s nothing alarming, I’m expecting most players that were out there last week to put their hand up again for this week.

“There’s a few selection headaches which is a good thing. It will work itself out over the next few days.”
