DARYL Clark says defeat in his first Challenge Cup Final can help him this time around.

The hooker was a teammate of Hull scrum half Marc Sneyd in the Castleford Tigers side that lost to a Leeds Rhinos team featuring Ryan Bailey in the 2014 decider at Wembley.

“It was a good experience going to Wembley with my hometown team, which was pretty special, but it was tough to be on the losing side,” said the 23-year-old England international, now in his second season with The Wire.

“It was my first major final and it would have been amazing to get the win but it wasn’t meant to be.

“I’m glad I’ve got the chance to go back again.

“It hurt but you get over it.

“It’s part and parcel of the game that you can’t win them all.

“Having the experience of going to the final and feeling what it’s like on the pitch in front of the packed stadium was all new to me.

“But that gives me a taste of what to expect in the sense of the surroundings and how the week can go.

“I’m going back to hopefully be on the other side this time – the winning side.”

He believes a last-gasp 14-11 win against his former club in the Super 8s at the weekend can help too.

“We would have liked to have had it in the bag a bit sooner than we did and been able to rest a few bodies towards the end but Castleford are a tough team,” he said.

“We know we can be miles better than what we were but we take confidence from the win.

“In their last two games against the top two they have beaten Hull away and Wigan at home.

“They were a team in form so I think it was a good win for us.”
