FACING Castleford Tigers will give Wolves the best possible preparation for next week’s Challenge Cup Final, boss Tony Smith says.

The Tigers arrive at The Halliwell Jones Stadium after starting their Super 8s campaign with impressive victories over Hull FC and Wigan.

Smith has called on his side to put their best foot forward as they look to keep alive their League Leaders’ Shield hopes.

“It’s a good build-up for us because Cas are as good as any team on their day,” he said.

“They have some fantastic attacking players, the likes of Luke Dorn and Luke Gale can cut any team apart as well as finishers like Denny Solomona.

“They have a lot of dangers across the park so we need to control the ball and play the game on our terms, otherwise they can hurt you as we’ve found out in the past.”

Solomona is Super League’s top try scorer having crossed 31 times so far this season, including four on his last meeting with Wolves on July 17.

While Smith admits the Wolves right edge will have to be on their game to keep the New Zealander quiet, he says the rest of the team can help by nullifying Castleford’s creative threats.

“We need to defend well on those edges, particularly our right side needs to be right on this weekend,” he said.

“We only had six missed tackles last week so defensively we’re very sound after being a bit off it on that right side the week before.

“We need to step it up again this week as they throw a lot of attack down that side.

“The rest of our team need to help them by cutting down the time Luke Gale has on the ball. If we let him run the show he can rip us apart.”
