WOLVES boss Tony Smith said his side’s performance was “pretty average” as they drew 16-16 at 12-man Hull Kingston Rovers.

Robins prop James Green was sent off just before the break for punching Jordan Cox, but James Donaldson put the hosts in front just seconds later.

Thomas Minns stretched Rovers’ lead just after the break, but Matty Russell and Brad Dwyer pulled The Wire level.

Jack Hughes scampered over late on for what looked like the winning try before Iain Thornley snatched a point at the death, a result Smith conceded was fair.

“I suppose a draw was fair but I thought effort wise Hull KR were fantastic,” he said.

“They won on spirit in that respect but it was a frustrating game for both sides at times. The handling wasn’t helped by the conditions but there was also issues with discipline.

“It wasn’t a classic by any means but we were as much to blame for that as Hull KR were, I think even they will put their hand up and say they made a whole heap of errors and their discipline wasn’t where they would like it either.

“We’re not fussed whether we got one point or no points, it’s about performance it was a pretty average performance from us.”

A dull first half sparked into life when Green appeared to land two punches on former Rovers man Cox, with referee Michael Woodhead brandishing a red card after consulting his touch judges.

Smith says he didn’t see the incident but says it didn’t have too much of an effect on the game.

“I was standing on the touchline at that stage so I didn’t have the benefit of a replay, I asked our video guys to see a replay but he’d gone with play and the incident was in back play,” he said.

“All I saw was Jordan’s dominant tackle, I’m not sure what happens after that.

“I don’t think it really had a big effect on the game, both teams were making plenty of errors and giving away penalties before that and that just continued.

“For us, it’s a case of if you don’t do everything right, sometimes you get beat, sometimes you get a point so we need to be better than that.

“We need to execute better than that and be more disciplined with the ball and defensively as well.”
