WOLVES utility man Stefan Ratchford has called for more of the same from the Wire faithful in tonight’s Challenge Cup ‘derby’ against Widnes.

The sides met in front of a sold-out crowd at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Good Friday, with The Wire emerging as 28-10 winners on that occasion.

Another large attendance is expected as the sides battle it out for a place in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Ratchford was part of the Wolves side that won the competition for the third time in four years in 2012 and he had a message for the primrose and blue army.

“Keep cheering us on and we’ll be giving as much as we can to get you the victory,” he said.

“There’s periods in the game when you’re feeling a bit tired and low on energy but then you hear the crowd singing and the drum going.

“I’m sure I speak for the rest of the boys in saying that it gives you that couple of extra per cent and makes you want to get through that tired period and come out of the other side flying.

“I’d ask them to keep doing what they’re doing as they’ve been absolutely unreal this year, they still sing their hearts out whether we win, lose or draw.”

After the 2012 Wembley win over Leeds Rhinos, Wolves have fallen at the semi-final stage of the competition in each of the last three seasons.

Hull FC, Leeds and Hull KR have all broken Wolves hearts in those games and Ratchford is keen to avoid a repeat.

“We’ve let ourselves down in the last couple of years in semi-finals with the way we’ve performed.

“We want to put in a really good performance on Friday and give ourselves the best chance of being in the hat for the next round.”
