YOUNG prop George King is set to make his first Wolves start of the season in the Challenge Cup quarter final clash with Widnes Vikings tomorrow, Friday, kick off 8pm.

Regular starting prop Ashton Sims will miss the game after he was handed a two-game ban for a high tackle in last week’s 20-18 victory over the Catalans Dragons.

Sam Wilde comes into the 19-man squad in Sims’ place in the only change from last week, with the likes of Tom Lineham, Gene Ormsby, Toby King and Declan Patton all set to play for the reserves against Hull FC on Sunday.

The Australian’s suspension opens up a space alongside skipper Chris Hill for the ‘derby’ clash at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with Ryan Bailey and Jordan Cox providing Wolves head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith with alternative front-row options.

However, it looks as though King, who appeared from the bench in every game this season prior to last week, will get the nod and Smith believes the 21-year-old is ready to take his chance.

“For such a young guy, playing in the middle like he does he’s done remarkably well so we just wanted to freshen George up,” he said.

“There’s no doubt in his ability and he’s got a bright future but it won’t do him any harm to have a week off here or there and I’m conscious of burning him out.

“We’ll welcome George back this week and he’ll be much better for the break.”

Fiji international prop Sims will serve his second suspension of the season after he missed the 26-4 victory at St Helens earlier this month after being banned for his role in a punch-up with Leeds’ Brad Singleton during the clash with the Rhinos on May 27.

He was cited for a high shot on Catalans’ Jason Baitieri in last week’s win but Smith says the former North Queensland man needs to be more careful in future.

“It’s not great news, you don’t like losing players to injury and you like losing them to suspension even less,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s ever any intent for malice but he plays in a tough position, he tries to play tough but sometimes that can sometimes go a little bit awry unless kept in check.”
