WOLVES cannot focus all their energies on the in-form Scott Taylor in tonight’s crunch clash with Hull FC, prop Ashton Sims says.

The Black and Whites prop has been in scintillating form since arriving at his boyhood club from Wigan during the off-season and he has impressed enough to scoop the Super League Player of the Month award for May.

Sims is likely to be in direct competition with Taylor in the front row and the Australian says it would be dangerous to focus solely on him.

“He’s deserved that award, he’s played well all year but in the last month or so he’s really stepped it up,” he said.

“He’s definitely one guy we’ve got to look out for but we’re not singling anyone out.

“We know it’s got to be a real pack mentality on Friday and we need to run hard and play well for the full 80 minutes.”

The Hull pack has attracted plenty of admiring comments during their run of 11 victories in their last 12 Super League games.

However, Sims stressed Lee Radford’s men have threats all over the field that need to be marshalled, including his former Brisbane Broncos teammate Steve Michaels.

“They do have a really good forward pack but it’s a challenge we’re really looking forward to,” he said.

“They’ve got a really strong pack but their back three are also excellent with Jamie Shaul at full-back as well as guys like Talanoa and Stevie Michaels on the wing to get them off to a good start so the forwards can come in and run the ball back hard.

“Steve’s a good friend, I played with him for a couple of years at Brisbane and he’s been playing really well since he came over.

“He’s added to that Hull FC team over the past year so it’s good to see Ralphy playing really well.”

The Wire will go back to the top of the Super League table on points difference with a win tonight, but they also know a defeat would send Hull back to East Yorkshire with a four-point cushion.

Defeat could also mean Wolves go into next week as low as fourth depending on how rivals Catalans and Wigan get on in their respective games, but Sims played down the importance of regaining top spot.

“There’s only six games to go until the split so we don’t want to give them too much of a lead but we’re just fighting for consistency,” he said.

“That’s one thing we’ve wanted to do since the start of the year and we’ve really had that in these last two games.

“We want to go more than back-to-back though, we want to do it four, five, six times in a row so that’s a big thing for us at the moment.”
