THE Wire fans can play a big part in driving the side on when Hull FC visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow, Friday.

Wolves were backed by an impressive travelling support during last week’s win against St Helens and the fans look set to turn out in numbers again for the top-of-the-table clash with the Black and Whites.

Smith says the players really feel the atmosphere at the stadium and called on the fans to make a similar noise on Friday.

“It was full not so long ago and hopefully we can get back up to that sort of capacity on Friday because it really does pump here,” he said.

“The boys are loving the support and we’re really grateful for the support we get.

“I thought they were outstanding over at Saints last week, when we were defending our own line some of the cheering that was going on for each play we defended was enormous.

“Our players grew during that period and the fans played their part in that, they really do bring us on when it’s a bit tough.”

The team have been training on the stadium pitch more often recently as the surface at their Padgate training facility is affected by the weather and Smith was keen to thank the Halliwell Jones groundstaff for their support.

“We’ve been training down here a bit extra as our pitch at Padgate is a little firm at the moment with the dry weather,” he said.

“Our groundsman has done a great job of letting us on the pitch for an extra day per week on a much better surface than what our training facility has.

“We talk about it when we’re at the stadium, about the atmosphere that’s going to be there the next day.

“We enjoy being there when it’s empty but we really love it when it’s full.”
