Salford Red Devils u19 22 Warrington Wolves u19 42

A STUNNING first-half display from Wolves proved to be enough as Lee Briers’ youngsters beat Salford at the AJ Bell Stadium last Thursday evening.

Against a side that started the game level on points with them, Wolves roared out of the traps and scored five tries before half-time, including two for Harvey Livett.

The hosts brought themselves back into the game after the break, but Wolves stretched away to secure a superb win, with Livett completing a fantastic hat-trick.

Wolves opened the scoring early on when Livett put Ellis Gillam over in the right corner, with Morgan Smith adding an excellent touchline conversion.

Nine minutes later, Brad Stanway found Declan Kay linking into the line and he broke through to score on the left, with Smith adding another conversion.

Salford hit back when Ben Calland touched down, but that only served to kick Wolves into another gear, with Smith finding Livett to stretch over for his first try.

Livett wasn’t finished and he took Harry Reardon’s pass to score right of the posts, before Reardon and Kay linked up to put Jack Fox over in the left corner and give Wolves a 30-6 half-time lead.

However, the hosts sensed an opportunity for a comeback when Aaron Moore crossed twice in the space of three minutes before Elliot Cane’s try brought the score back to 30-22.

Wolves kept their composure and Fox crossed for his second of the game to effectively put the game beyond Salford with a little over ten minutes remaining.

There was to be a crowning glory for Livett, who took a bullet pass from Reardon to go over next to the posts to complete his hat-trick five minutes from time, with Smith continuing his 100% record with the boot to seal a fine win for Wolves.
