Warrington Wolves Under-19s head coach Lee Briers says his youngsters cannot dwell on their heavy defeat to St Helens

A hat-trick from Jonah Cunningham helped the visitors extend their 100% record this season while ending Wolves’ four-match winning run at the same time.

Briers admits there is plenty to work on in training before his side’s trip to Salford on May 12.

“It was by no means our best performance of the season but you have to give credit to St Helens who played really well and fully deserved the victory,” he said.

“We have been on a good run so we will not dwell on this; we don’t have a game next weekend so we will fix things up in training and get ready for our next fixture away at Salford Red Devils.”

The hosts trailed 22-4 at the break as a clinical Saints side blew them away in the first half and, despite a spirited second half effort that included four tries, they couldn’t quite reel the visitors back in.

“We allowed them to build up a healthy lead in the first half and the two tries straight after half time put the game out of reach,” Briers said.

“My lads never gave up and played some good stuff in the final half an hour but we need to do that from the beginning of games against sides like Saints.”
